Peter Avitabile is the Co-Director of the Structural Dynamics and Acoustic Systems Laboratory and Director of the former Modal Analysis and Controls Laboratory at UMASS Lowell and Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department. Pete joined the University in 1985 after having worked in industry for over 10 years. He received his B.S.M.E. from Manhattan College in 1974 and his M.S.M.E. at University of Rhode Island in 1982 and his Doctorate in Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 1998. His industrial and university experience of over 30 years includes analytical and experimental modal analysis, signal processing and finite element modeling.

Pete's main area of research is in the Structural Dynamics and Acoustic Systems Laboratory where he is involved in many different aspects of structural dynamic modeling techniques using both analytical and experimental approaches.
